A mechanical installation featuring Mozart’s faces
The Mozarthaus Vienna is expanding its offerings with an innovative, freely accessible installation in the left window next to the museum entrance. Conceived, designed, and implemented by checkpointmedia, this mechanical installation invites visitors to engage with Mozart’s image in a playful way.
Five backlit, rotating cylinders display various historical portraits of Mozart, divided into segments. The individual image segments rotate at varying speeds and in different directions, constantly recomposing Mozart’s face. This kinetic animation evokes an 18th-century music box, creating a unique visual experience.
Visitors can position themselves in front of the iconic Mozart silhouette and capture the moving image for photos and videos—an interactive selfie point, perfect for social media.
